SailGP Comes to Hong Kong for the First Time
Mark your calendar: the Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix will open the 2027 Rolex SailGP Championship on 23-24 January 2027. It is the first SailGP event ever held in the city, and the first of 13 events on a calendar spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East.
The event has also received “M” Mark status from the Hong Kong government, which recognises it as a major international sporting event. Some dates and venues on the 2027 calendar are still provisional, so keep an eye on the official SailGP website.
What Is SailGP?

SailGP is a global league of national teams racing identical F50 foiling catamarans. The boats lift out of the water and fly on foils, and the racing is fast, close and physical. Courses are set near the shore, so the fleet performs in front of the spectators like a stadium.
Where: Victoria Harbour
Few harbours in the world suit this format as well as Victoria Harbour. The fleet will race in front of Hong Kong’s skyline, with the towers of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island on either side. The surrounding buildings are expected to create gusty, shifting winds, which promises a real challenge for the teams in round one.
Sail GP Hong Kong 2027 Key Dates
- 23-24 January 2027: Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix, Victoria Harbour (season opener)
- February 2027: Perth, Western Australia (next stop)
- The season then continues through North America and Europe, before finishing with Rio de Janeiro, Dubai and the Grand Final.
Fans can now book their spot for the Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix, the season opener of the 2027 Rolex SailGP Championship. Demand is expected to be high for the first-ever SailGP event in the city, so it is worth securing your plans early, whether you watch from the shore or from the water.
Why Charter a Yacht for the Hong Kong SailGP?
Watching from the shore means crowds, fixed viewing spots and a long way from the action. From a yacht, you choose your position and see the racing the way few people can.
- Front-row seats on the water. Be close to the race area with the skyline behind you, and watch the foiling catamarans pass in front of you.
- Your own private VIP area. Entertain family, friends or clients on board, with a crew looking after every detail, from food and drinks to the itinerary.
- Comfort and freedom. No queues and no packed grandstands. You can move around the harbour, anchor where you like and enjoy the city from the water.
- A perfect corporate or private occasion. A major international event, a global audience and an iconic setting: few moments are better for impressing clients or celebrating with the people who matter to you.
- Winter sailing season. January is a pleasant time to be on the water in Hong Kong, and one of the quieter periods for the city’s hospitality sector.
Yachts that can reach this kind of position are limited, and demand always rises around major events, so booking early matters.
